    From what I understand she grew because she had to. The intle overflow wasn’t enough to kill her but she had to grow a bigger brain (and probably a bigger head/body to match) to keep up. The others don’t need it because small brain = smaller head and smaller body needed.

    Then again, they already mentioned that the winner is often more exhausted/drained than the loser. The winner kept crawling towards the victory until the end, whereas the loser foresaw their loss early and mentally prepared themselves. Plus, Shimada is more experienced than Rei.
