Believe me, it has been reviewed and revised twice, with a few additional contexts within the translation to connect the flow. The original flow in Japanese is just like that (it kinda makes sense in Japanese, but not so clear in English).

That character (Madoka) is known for her unhinged romantic and sexual affairs, so that probably explains why she tends to think that Kaede was probably running away with a suspicious man.

I love how the mangaka knows how to make someone look so disgusting (her father), lol. I also like that Momiji and Kaede are portrayed naked in the debate as a symbol of powerless and defenseless girls under the society and their father's scrutiny, as if they're completely seen into or exposed...

Yeah, she died due to a traffic accident (got hit by a car while crossing the road) when Rena/Kaede was in the 5th grade of elementary school.
