It's a surprising twist of a back story, sure, but it removes all sympathy I had for him at the start. He went from a relatable tired member of society to a thug.

I don't see a problem with this plot at all, to be honest. It just felt like a longer than average prologue. Tons of manga literally just start with "my entire life fell apart and im now all alone and angry etc etc". This is just that with extra steps. Now is when the story really starts and...

I predicted the accidental stoning happening but the twist to resolve it was very unexpected and amusing.

yes, your efforts are definitely appreciated, because it's not like anyone else is rushing to translating this. However, personally, it's just too illegible for me to enjoy at all. hope you can find someone that can help you increase the quality of your translation.
