Well this chapter just confirmed my suspicions. The manga is essentially 20th century Breaking Bad, plus war crimes. The characters aren't exactly the same nor is the plot, but it has all the same beats.

This manga progressed too quickly and the confession seems pretty random and rushed, as if the writer wanted to just hurry up and get to the part where they can draw cutesy couple stuff
