This feels like one of those manga where every character is really stupid but talks like they're smart by making constant allusions to "bigger things going on behind the scenes".

I think what they picked up on was that she was acting cool, while being worried internally, which is kinda an indicator of hiding something. Still a bit flimsy, but this is a series where previously liars have been identified by taste, in the end.
