Like everyone else has said, both are correct. For a fantasy object with unknown purpose and powers, I'd say artefact sounds better.
Probably because it's much less used where I am, so it has an Old World feel to it.
Dude is salty because he wanted to be his wife's first. Accidentally dies, goes back in time, and has a series of butterfly-effect timelines every time he dies, because he's changed the past.

... aside from some minor tweaks, this is almost a bad translation of the early versions of D&Ds magic missile. Glowing dart of magical force, first level wizard spell, automatically hits.
