It's nothing plot related, it's just continuity error. Lynn has a habit of shit like that. Brynhildr was full of them. Never read Elfen Lied, but I'm willing to bet it had them too.

I feel like a lot of people currently reading this here either forgot or are simply unaware of the fact the guy translating now is not who was doing it originally and that he was sniping the person who was uploading (inarguably) better quality scanlations.
