Red Blue - Ch. 177 - If I die, I’m taking you with me.

Thanks for the translation! Aoba is finally showing one of the most important skills in the fighting manga protagonist's arsenal: blocking punches with the head. I don't remember Kureishi written as having pillow hands (remember his previous high-ranking opponent went down after one counter)...

Red Blue - Ch. 176 - I'm Going to Die

The way this fight develops reminds me of Ippo vs Hayami, especially the last uppercut-to-hook exchange. So I guess Aoba's plan is to tank damage coz he has more HP (protagonist power lol), whereas Kureishi will likely lose most of his stats after a couple more exchanges.

    Red Blue - Ch. 173 - Aoba's New Masters

Why does Aoba not have hair on page 8? Did we miss the buzzcut arc?

Grappler Baki - Vol. 40 Ch. 350 - Secret War in Vietnam 4

Undefeatable with Cynthia Rothrock is pretty much a martial arts slasher movie. But because it had very low-budget sometimes some moments are kind of funny, especially the final fight scene.

Red Blue - Ch. 150 - Absolutely Ruthless

Thanks for the translation! The famous Aoba Death Stare is back! That probably means we’re going to see a comeback in the next chapter. By the way, I’ve noticed that many of Aoba’s opponents are either impressed by or even afraid of his skills and antics. I’d love to see him go up against...

Red Blue - Ch. 149 - An Ominous Jinx

Thanks for the translation! Tbh I don't like the pushing of the "This guy never loses if the fight goes beyond one round" narrative. Good to see Aoba and Amachi being skeptical about it. I hope the coaches have some kind of a plan in mind (like catch Yamamoto during his shifting to the right).

Red Blue - Ch. 148 - According to plan...?

Amachi gives life-saving instructions and validates his status as the best coach in the manga IMHO. Aoba's opponents do not receive the same quality advice from their corner most of the time.

Red Blue - Ch. 147 - THE YAMAMOTO FIGHT BEGINS!

Sheesh, give Yamamoto a break. The guy has over 50 fights and is still in the game being 44, in a weight class where people after 35 are considered OLD. That deserves some respect. And of course, he is looking past Aoba because it's literally his last chance to get to the title. We won't see...

Red Blue - Ch. 144 - Amachi vs. Yamamoto

Thanks! I think the author likely takes a lot of inspiration from the Japanese MMA scene, which I don't follow. So my parallels with UFC fighters might be not super precise, but sometimes there are definitely similarities. Kenshin is definitely based on Tenshin Nasukawa, who had some MMA fights...

Red Blue - Ch. 144 - Amachi vs. Yamamoto

Ironically, Hooper is scheduled to fight Jim Miller, who is 41 and has almost 60 fights (record holder for most fights and wins in UFC). The parallel with Aoba vs. Shogo is crazy.

Red Blue - Ch. 144 - Amachi vs. Yamamoto

Agree, so satisfying to see these lightning-fast translations. Amachi is like a manga protagonist who then ultimately failed and became frustrated. Now it makes sense why he didn't like Aoba in the beginning. Would argue with the Ortega and Hooper comparison though, both are not bad strikers...

Red Blue - Ch. 109 - The Warrior People of the Mountains

Sheesh, Dagestani people here are written the same way as Russians in early Baki. Sooo many stereotypes (dunno if the translation made it worse). BTW, Dagestan is not a country, just one of the many republics within Russia. Realistically, nobody will pick a street fight with a star MMA fighter...

    Red Blue - Ch. 143 - The Grappler's Pride

I just think from the storytelling perspective that fight and the outcome did not lead anywhere. Had the coach quickly lost it would have been super realistic but at the same time a bummer for the Shark gym since Aoba had just lost before. But since the coach won, the main question for me is...

    Red Blue - Ch. 143 - The Grappler's Pride

I still think All Rounder Meguru is slightly more grounded when it comes to stuff like injuries, training, and fighter progress. This manga still has some plot armor moments. Some are slight, like Aoba's lightning fast progress in the first ~85 chapters (after that it's all good). But the...

    Red Blue - Ch. 143 - The Grappler's Pride

LIghtning-fast translation, thank you! Finally, the hidden genius trope is mentioned. Aslo, after this chapter I am more confident that Aoba might win by KO/TKO.
