Its been a minute since I read this part in the novels but if I remember correctly she went into detail about how off balance she was after the horns were cut off. Those things were HEAVY and she had to practice walking a bunch before actually heading out to get Kousuke.

If humans had wings they'd actually likely come out the lower back or waist instead of upper back like typically depicted with angels and such. This is due to the fact that our center of gravity is lower down there and to fly stablely the wings would have to be as close to the center of gravity...
