Chainsaw Man - Ch. 177 - Trigger Finger

I think Fujimoto is playing with the idea that the pistol is, as a "gun," just an inherently violent symbol -- the aesthetic and functionality of a pistol is that of a weapon, and I don't think there's any denying that. I suspect he's playing with ideas about the inherent normalization of...

Chainsaw Man - Vol. 17 Ch. 167 - Super Smooch

Yes lmao. I have a bad habit of running on and on.

Chainsaw Man - Vol. 17 Ch. 167 - Super Smooch

Of course, this assumes that Yoru was trying to arouse/exploit Denji's sexuality... it could also be interpreted the other way, that Denji was just over stimulated in that way and came without Yoru doing anything particular. Like I said, there's definite ambiguity here, and I want to acknowledge...

Chainsaw Man - Vol. 17 Ch. 167 - Super Smooch

What to make of this chapter? Well, here are some thoughts that will attempt to bring some kind of critical analysis to this week's events. So first up, let's think within the context of Chainsaw Man. The insinuation for the last few chapters has been that Denji isn't able to become Chainsaw...

    Boy's Abyss - Ch. 173 - The Flame of a Righteous Life

It's not over Yuri-shippers (it's more over than it's ever been)

Asumi-chan wa Les Fuuzoku ni Kyoumi ga Arimasu! - Vol. 5 Ch. 21

Interesting reading. I might be inclined to agree, though I think Nanao's jealousy of Asumi going to brothels might be a more active agent in realizing their relationship than anything else - these guys are missing boundaries, and once they have them, the ship may sail (if the mangaka doesn't do...

Asumi-chan wa Les Fuuzoku ni Kyoumi ga Arimasu! - Vol. 5 Ch. 21

Hit the nail on the head. Assumably, once Mai and Asumi meet, its over, which is why we have so many plot contrivances keeping them apart.

Asumi-chan wa Les Fuuzoku ni Kyoumi ga Arimasu! - Vol. 5 Ch. 21

At this point I think it's safe to say that Mai is sort of just an unattainable ideal. Both Mai and Asumi are clinging to such large "what ifs" that I think they're personal story arcs should revolve around letting go, at least with the direction the manga is going. Someone else said it...

Asumi-chan wa Les Fuuzoku ni Kyoumi ga Arimasu! - Vol. 5 Ch. 21

I agree with what you're saying. They almost seem to have a perfect relationship, but it's so superficial - as you've said, Asumi doesn't seem to have any interest in Nanao, and her lack of boundaries with Nanao has put them in this strange limbo where they're basically dating but... not dating...

How Do We Relationship? - Vol. 10 Ch. 92 - To You

Thanks for the hard work. Your scanslations are beautiful.

Chainsaw Man - Ch. 137 - Chu Chu Lovely Muni Muni Mura Mura

Well, I'm willing to wager a guess so far as it relates to the overarching themes of the manga - I could be proven entirely wrong by the next chapter, and I don't care if I am, but it's fun to guess in the meanwhile. I think this chapter touches on the recurring idea of intimacy as violence - in...

    I Love Amy - Ch. 41 - Road Movie (1)

I hate to toot my own horn, but as I predicted, Bibi wants to keep Amy close because she wants to keep being loved. She even said almost verbatim what i said she would (in previous chapter's post).

Welcome Back, Alice - Vol. 7 Ch. 39 - Welcome back

you've worded this really nicely, and I agree quite heartily with the way you've explained it. I feel like i was missing some key stuff coming to this most recent chapter, and your notes have certainly given me charge to revisit the series from chapter one just for the retrospect. Thanks for the...

I Love Amy - Ch. 40 - Bibi and Camilla

The implication of the pet rabbit as I understand it (and this is just my opinion) is that, as a child, Bibi was negligent with a thing she loved. She misunderstood what it meant to love something, and as she says, "I thought it'd like whatever I gave it." One can even question if she really did...

Welcome Back, Alice - Vol. 7 Ch. 39 - Welcome back

It seems almost certain that at the least, Kei is gender queer or nonbinary, which while not trans, is also certainly meaningful. Kei reflects one facet of the mangaka's exploration of gender and meaning in the sense of believing that the "grass is always greener on the otherside," and that by...
