Am I tripping or did the story change? Weren't they supposed to select opponents to fight against? Pretty sure they made a whole thing about how bad it is to target some lower ranked than you.

@TherealFRAJ69 you should definitely check out So I'm a Spider, So What? The manga is pretty good but it leaves out a large chunk of the story so I'd recommend the light novels.
