In the other chapters, she noted how mayuri's ancestors ate something called the angel fruit. I'm assuming it allows them to use some of the abilities of angels with the side effect of food appearing.
Nishiyama reminds me of a saying "Fear an old man in a profession where men die young" but in this case, it applies to him surviving bad luck for just under 3 years straight. (he said he's had 1000 consecutive bad mornings which equates to 3years)
