Always has been. He's just mistrustful because of his condition, and he was trying to teach Mozuya how to properly live with the Tsundere Syndrome.
I thought this was a (romantic?) comedy/drama about a girl with a mental illness told through the lens of her dumpy friend. I can safely conclude I am a fucking stupid, and this is beyond anything I thought it could be/should be.
