Why is this manga so popular?

If I remember well Alita's author was a fan of some american comic book artist (don't remember who exactly though...someone from the '70s/'80s I guess. Tezuka was a fan of Walt Disney of course. Araki was probably a fan of western movies I think, but I don't know if he liked western comics too...

I bought the raws from Bookwalker.jp. That's it, you can't find it elsewhere, except the first volumes.

It's not a 9/10. It's a FULL 10/10. This manga almost made me cry. the first manga after Nausicaa by Miyazaki. GREAT! It deserves an anime.
