I kinda hope they don't just stick to the gimmick and actually progress the story into a romance of some sort. Like the nerdy girl for instance, there's already mutual attraction. Having a romance out of it makes sense.

Yeah I agree, the pre-serialization just had more heat to it but the pacing might get better once the author crosses where the pre-serialization left off.

Yes but these scans are a few years old now so not much can be done unless someone wants to take a shot at redoing the whole thing themselves. Now, SAP's scans were actually quite high-quality and proofread but we got sniped and surpassed so hard that it demoralized us too much to continue, sadly.
