I disagree that it's not as deep or complex as the anime, but the anime does execute some aspects in a more in depth manner, same goes both ways though.

In my opinion it might in all honesty be better than the anime, it takes a lot of time to flesh out side characters more, and has a lot more content than the anime. It's lost the clean execution of allegories found in "swinging the bat", sparkling drinks, and no longer prominently features...
