I don't think a lot of these "she's being stupid" commenters understand how completely trauma from abuse warps the brain. It can take decades of therapy just to get to the point where you feel like you can honestly accept love given to you, and even then you'll have bad days, weeks, or even...

I know this MC is probably gonna end up having some sort of tragic backstory that is intended to validate his envy, but it was so satisfying to see his excessive jealousy met with the universe saying"fine, then perish". XD
