I believe your correct, though perhaps overcomplicated it. The first die doesn't actually matter to 'doubles', any of its faces can be part any resulting double. The only factor is that the second die must land on the same side as the first so a 1/6 right there.

My guess is the cool down is how long until ALL the revive charges refresh and it gets more and more penalized the more you are forced to use. Die once? Eh it basically didn't happen 2 hours later, die 8 times? Now you are on the run for 256 hours if it just doubles the timer or 510 hours if...
