I actually fucking hate how they're making Mai out to be a victim. Bitch, no. Renako is a victim, she said to stop multiple times but Mai wouldn't and she got what she deserved. Honest to god, Mai is almost irredeemable in my eyes. It will be a fucking miracle if the author can get me to like her again.

Actually this, lmao.
This was probably the worst fucking conversation ever. Not even remotely THINKING about the idea that the stupid forceful romance shtick was unacceptable and that maybe Mai should listen to boundaries for like, a second.
"It's cuz you're so half-hearted that you got sexually assaulted"

Cool lesson author.

If this wasn't a romcom it could be interesting. The idea of Renako being between a rock and a hard place between her loner trauma of losing a friend or having to deal with sexual assault from said friend.

Since it is a romcom it just comes off as gross and disrespectful of the content having the victim apologize for their own abuse.

I think there is a need to read this as drama and not as moral philosophy. Renako feeling guilt over hitting Mai is realistic, even when Mai deserved it. Mai’s delusionally supportive confidant blaming Mai’s victim for defending herself is also realistic, albeit aggravating.

Yeah this series has been fun trashy so far, but this chapter is almost impressively icky. It wasn't even a "both sides are at fault" argument for fucks sake, which would have been bad enough.

im enjoying the later chapters of this manga focusing on Ajisai so much i forgot just how awful this part was. yeah Mai is definitely the victim here after Renako didnt let Mai rape her. definitely feels like a reflection of the author's worldview which is scary.

Ah yes, remember when ever you are being sexually assaulted and you try to defend yourself it's your fault. Why would you write this???!! I read past this part in the novel and completely forgot about this. I guess being illustrated makes it feel even worse to read. I love reading Yuri but what is with all this non-consentual assault in these? Please if you're going to broach the topic of SA do it with an understanding that the victim is guess what the victim, yeah I know crazy.

I agree with the general opinion in this forum that seems to be “making mai the victim in this is gross and the obsessive black haired lackey victim blaming the MC is abhorrent”. No matter how enticing the yuri may seem this development is a poor reflection of the author in every way for what’s supposed to be considered a serious story beat.

That said it’s not so surprising this is the path the story has taken, it’s clear the author takes your assumption of Mai “meaning well” or “being a good person” for granted cause duh, it’s a romcom, why else would she even be the main love interest. This is obviously not reflective of real life since anyone who does something to you against your will can and should be suspected of ill intent regardless of the stated purpose, but in a story these things are absolute facts and for what I assume to be convenience’s sake the story takes the path of least resistance, make the main character regret their justified and reasonable actions, have a secondary character scold or otherwise motivate them to do what their guilt may already be telling them to, manufacture some reconciliation where both parties restore the status quo while barely (or not at all) establishing boundaries or demonstrating lessons learned, and lastly, framing this entire situation as character growth for all involved when the only real change is how much you realize the author isn’t talking this seriously.

There is something to be said of black haired lackey’s handling of the situation and how in any normal scenario the right call would be to distance yourself immediately from these freaks but without them any chance at plot progression evaporates due to the MC’s impossibility brittle backbone

No goddamn way is Satsuki shaming Renako for defending herself.

Mai could be annoying to read, but Satsuki just jumped to the top of the shitty characters list.

I decide to read this manga upon hearing its controversy. “Maybe there’s more to this,” I thought. “I should give it the chance to present itself.”

But damn, THIS chapter was the one which made me mad. I hate victim-blamers. I have no trust in this author’s ability to manage these characters and plot after that shitshow.
