Oof between this and Vignette Witch I wonder if genderswap just has publisher issues. And then the FUCKED, the end.
So it’s finally here, Volume 2. Despite the earlier rumours of cancellation on the Japanese side, they (thankfully) were wrong. I’m rather surprised considering it missed its initial release date twice, so I had basically already given up hope on it ever coming out.
That said, while I won’t say no to more content of the series, I’m slightly disappointed at the somewhat unfinished art, especially the cover. As I noted earlier in the comments of the final chapter, judging by the reactions by the mangaka I presume that there had been a falling out between the mangaka and the publisher, and that Holiday-sensei left it unfinished to get it over with (perhaps out of contractual obligation?).
I guess we’ll never know for sure, but at least we got a good epilogue out of it, so overall I’m very happy.
Thanks for your work, Duck! You're a real one.And then the FUCKED, the end.
That weird and wonderful stuff even has a chance to take a swing is something to celebrate. Try to be original or subversive with a US publisher and you won't even make it past the elevator pitch stage. You'll be chewed out for not sufficiently appealing to the suburban living weed culture-curious tire factory worker demographic before you can share even one chapter.Ahh, the healing balm for the soul. Wish there were more of this but japan has a peculiar habit of killing everything I enjoy...
Pretty much, also sales and popularity issues.Oof between this and Vignette Witch I wonder if genderswap just has publisher issues.
Huh we used to get one every two years or so, last 2 years have been empty following Ayakashi Triangle end. That weird and wonderful stuff even has a chance to take a swing is something to celebrate. Though yeah like NinjaGoemon said, there is a sort of bias against genderswap. A bias that loosened up considerably in the wake of Your Name and Onimai but we're starting to see a slide backwards. (not necessarily a slide that'll continue back to the dark ages, I think the next big TS work is just around the corner)
This is making me think of Destiny Chain Online which apparently has a bit on gender and stuff due to the forcefem vampire stuff going on but the manga is taking forever to circle back to it.That weird and wonderful stuff even has a chance to take a swing is something to celebrate. I am not the only one that noticed that the wealth of gender bending manga that we used to get is now a trickle.Though yeah like NinjaGoemon said, there is a sort of bias against genderswap. It should be noted that Uesugi isn't just any regular series, but by veteran shoujo mangaka that has been active for over 30 years, so it's not that surprising that it's doing well.I am not the only one that noticed that the wealth of gender bending manga that we used to get is now a tickle.
It sucks, hopefully we get more stuff. One of the surprise sales hits lately in Japan being a straight up shojo GB (Uesugi Wants to Quit Being a Girl) is a good sign.
