What are you doing step mom D:
Wait, did he really go "I'm just doing this to bait people into reading my manga"? That would be really safe-edgy and kill the entire appeal. The last chapter had an author's note that his work might seem to be in poor taste, but he's only doing it to drum up interest. I thought it was nothing out of the ordinary until I got to the art where the MC is about to be molested. Someone tell Bobby that edge =/= quality.
Wait, did he really go "I'm just doing this to bait people into reading my manga"? That would be really safe-edgy and kill the entire appeal.
Man that author's note is a really odd self-tell. He should've kept it to himself. Now he's basically spelled out that he can't write a interesting story and will need to escalate the edge or it will deflate - so in the worst case you can expect zero nuance from this and lots of intentionally shocking moments and emotional manipulation. The Author's Note (Chp. 4 Pg. 32)
TL;DR: "My all ages work didn't do so hot, so now I'm making something edgy. If you think you're above that, well, you read this far anyways. Btw, this work is a shonen disguised as an edgefest"
The funny thing is he was apparently an assistant on Fairy Tail, which is the safest manga ever, so I don't have that much faith that this doesn't go the same way all revenge manga go. Yk, the "every bad thing ever happens to the MC AND everyone he happily tortures to death is a sex offender" formula. The formula that leads to boring manga with no substance except for edge. The ultimate safe edgy formula.
