The love interest does not have a plausible motive for self-destructive abuse of alcohol; the MC does not have a plausible motive for joining and driving such self-destructive abuse. The chapter was not well written up to that point, and suddenly got still worse.

But I guess that self-anaesthetization is so normalized in Japanese culture that most readers won't give the implausibility a second thought.

The story is deeper than what is shown for now, and the MC reason for getting married is very understandable. I'd recommend you to watch the series (only 2 seasons) if you're interest in the ending.

Now we understand why love interest is so mean. She's miserable and being mean is the only way she can cope. Loves her kid but probably a forced marriage at best and so she buries herself in work as an excuse to avoid her feelings and to avoid her home life she hates. My mom stayed out of the house at times because why would she want to come home to my abusive dad. Weirdly enough he never abused me, just her...

This is not as unreasonable as you might think. Presuming some of the circumstances the love interest's behavior makes a lot of sense and a protag being hung up on someone is not uncommon for real people either. It's interesting to see something so rough that has almost no fluff. The way love interest cares about her kid was really sweet. You can tell she's not a monster but likely a victim of circumstance. I could be wrong and yeah being a victim of circumstance isn't an excuse but rather an explanation on how to judge her actions. Someone starving who steals an apple deserves sympathy. Someone who steals a diamond but is already rich does not. Judge her accordingly.
