Seems reasonable to me, she could've just as easily done nothing and left him to find his own way.
In the event she dies, she's making sure her son is both taken care of and has a potential spouse to create progeny with. If she's not going to be around she may as well start vetting people she can trust to do both of those things.

Maaan I know this is good but coming off of a manga where the artist used a irl model as reference for the full body poses (and it shows!) I just can't get over how the tits look like they got added on as and after though...
(If there was a wrong name in the chapter it was corrected by the time I read it.)
Meris has long light blue hair and Erin has short hair of unknown color but probably light brown or blonde. I did notice that Erin's hair was lighter here than when she was introduced.
