wow, page 13... so reiji literally IS esemori. and page 16, jesus christ this manga has so many parallels its insane. so now does that mean that reiji's real father was the abusive one? and i think we know why esemori came back with nagi, it was to save reiji from yuko. somehow, some way, everything that has happened so far seems to be in part at fault of esemori, or directly by his planning.

She wanted to be saved.

You just rejected ger when there was still a way back for her.
Exactly. I think Esemori is a pretty reliable when it comes to recounting past events concerning others, but when it comes to his own personal matters, I don't think he is a reliable narrator. There was definitely a brief window of time where Yuko desired and probably could've been saved. But, he wasn't able to catch on to the signs she exhibited concerning her home situation, and even when it was revealed to him, hell even before it was revealed to him, when Yuko asked him what he thought of Uryu asking her out, he failed to properly express his feelings for her and pushed her away. Then he messed up again on that bridge by not doing the same thing.

Esemori could've saved her in the past, but I suppose that time is long gone now.

have we been given Yuko and Akira's modern age yet? because I dont think I believe that Reiji isn't his kid. Yuko could've been pregnant already from the fish night, it just requires them to be roughly 34

especially since I cant imagine Yuko getting to attached to Reiji (and using that name) if it wasn't the case

I have the benefit of binging it but come on people, Yuko is 40 something and author-san said multiple times that he ditched town at 18 and only came back 30 years later when his mother died.
I don't think Yuko ever stopped having sex for money so the father may be some random man.

I don't understand these debates about who and when have to save someone else. I though the main moral is no one will save you but yourself. Yes, other people can help you to survive in this town but the only person who can stop the cycle of destructive it's you.
It's quite sad to hear from other comments like "this is his fault because he didn't notice her signs" or "he expressed his feeling in the wrong way". Lol, he's a kid and she was also a kid who couldn't frankly open herself to him. Everyone's innocent, everyone's blamed either.
