Not a typo. I can’t think of any reason besides everyone else in the village being passed out drunk or super weak. They did need help catching one bear. It’s also likely the bandits have some supernatural skills since monsters and magic exist🤷

I mean the math isn't entirely off. 350 people. If we assume 40% is women, that's 140. If we assume another 40% is children and elderly. That would make it 70 vs 50 and if you consider A) it's a sneak attack, even if they know an attack could be coming they dont know when. B) the bandits are ex-mercenaries. C) Not many of the villagers would have any fighting experience.
That was being generous, if we lower the numbers to 20% each it brings it to 210 vs 50 which is still winnable. Heck the Vietnamese had worse odds
