Not saying it as a mean thing, but this was the first meme that came to mind.

"Blood is thicker than water", is often misconstrued/misinterpreted(?). The full quote is "The blood of the covenant is thicker than the water of the womb", as in the friends/bonds we make outside of familial bonds can be stronger than those said familial bonds. That's probably what Hongo really needs.

Happy pride month y'all.

Unfortunately, the full quote isn't a real thing. "Blood is thicker than water" date from the 12th century, while the "blood of the covenant" date from the 1990's. In general, many of the supposed "full quote" are also later inventions.

That said, yeah, Hongo needs people who cares about him and his family isn't providing.

Apparently the supposed full quote might come from an adaptation of an observation by H.C. Trumbull from the importance of Blood brothers in the Arab world when compared to "milk" brothers raised by the same mother, which would be the "water of the womb". But instead of blood and water it is blood and milk.

Jack gives no references for any of this, and several aspects of it are quite implausible. If there are “many biblical references” to the phrase, then why not mention the best one? The claimed meaning of “blood brother” is not any of the usual meanings found in reference works. An “expression dating back three thousand years” would surely have left written traces in that time. It is hard to avoid the impression that Jack is just making things up, especially when you turn the page and discover his claim that the phrase “butter someone up” comes ultimately from a Tang Dynasty tradition “known as ‘buttering up the Buddha’”.
Now I really want to know how he got that conclusion.

Whoever spread this bullshit on social media did some irreversible damage to people's culture. It's some weird sect's priest's claim with 0 source or backup.

And now you have all the people trying to brainwash kids into rejecting their families (or people who hate theirs already) who parrot it everywhere.

So is hongo actually a gay man or is he actually a she and that’s why he wanted to go to Miyu’s house instead? Both are kinda funny for different reasons but I’d rather him be a gay guy for the extra familial drama
