Leonardo's ability is to copy the abilities of dead loved one, so he got the dominance skill off one and the wound transfer skill off the other. so I think your theory is likely that which of them had that ability used it to save Leonardo.

The real power of his skill was quite obvious based on how it was presented but the revelation was really well thought with the ankle bruise being transfered to the father. Author did a really good job.

I really hope the author will have the restraint to not say it explicitly... but that's not how manga do things unfortunately.
