This is probably the most wholesome problematic age gap manga out there, I don't think anyone should get upset at this since they've known each other from childhood, even if it's a bit risque.

I've solved the age gap mystery: they are exactly 5 years apart. Here's why.

Beginning of the series, FMC just entered Japanese high school, which would make her 15 years old. This is a certified fact.

The harder part is the MC. We know that since he can legally drink, he's at least 20 years old (Japanese drinking age is 20). However, the biggest clue is one of the after stories/images for one of the chapters where it showed MC and FMC side by side in high school and middle school respectively (ch20). Also important was that there was an interaction between them (FMC giving MC a present), so we know that this is a canon event and not the author trying to illustrate them in uniforms for fun.

Assuming the greatest age range between them is 1st year middle school for FMC and 3rd year high school for MC, the age range would be 5 years since a 3rd year high schooler would be 17 years old and a 1st year middle schooler would be 12 years old.

MC most likely did not go to a 4 year college. One of the after story bits said that he wanted to be independent from his family as soon as possible, so he very likely went to the workforce after finishing highschool (ch16). 2 year college or a technical school is also very unlikely since he has a kouhai in his job, meaning he's experienced and been at his job for quite a while now, probably for 2 years. How the MC landed an office job right out of high school is a bit odd but not impossible, especially for the Japanese workforce industry. He seems like the diligent and studious type, so he could make it.

It's also said they haven't seen each other in a few years. Not couple, but few. Few, according to Google, can mean 2 years, but it's mostly referred to as at least 3 years. This fits the story timewise assuming MC started to distance himself from FMC when he was starting his last year of highschool. MC probably felt guilty and weird seeing someone he saw has a little sister as a woman, so he decided to distance himself (the interaction between them at the after story of chapter 16 serves to support this point). Of course, this could just be a translation problem for finding the closest English word for the actual Japanese word, so we don't know for sure. Could be a language difference or nuance, especially since English speakers sometimes use the words "couple" and "few" interchangeably. All we know for sure is that it's been at least 2 years since they last saw each other.

Finally, a 5 year difference would make sense for an age gap story. It's neither too big to be creepy nor too small to be a minor obstacle. Also makes sense why the MC is fumbling so hard and doesn't really know what to do about the age difference between them, given he just became an adult and doesn't really have much life experience under his belt.

So yeah. It's a 5 year difference. FMC is 15 and MC is 20.
