Oh damn we're doing ALL the callbacks. The Starmen are the benevolent Outer-God esque beings from Astrological Observers, the Designer is the god that resets the universe (?) from Archaeological Excavation Assistant. It would've been perfectly reasonable to leave those threads loose, since they seem so fundamentally problematic when trying to bring together into a coherent universe, but the mangaka is really going all in and making everything wrap up in a fancy little bow...

Edit: Also worth pointing out the allegory of Hama's dad being stuck doing grey jobs literally forever! Not having an existence outside of them, showing up and disappearing with the job. It's a perfect parallel to the girls' own existence up to this point (we only ever see them on the job, the series continuing to go on means they would be stuck like this forever). So it's also the author pointing out how a horror series that never ends is kind of a bad end... or at least a mixed bag!

So that's what happened to her dad, huh, he got gray'd and is only in existence when he's on a job.

Also RIP that detective guy, that's what happens when you disregard warnings about the gray.

And damn, now we really going into the endgame now, huh?

UH OH. Yeah my argument from last chapter destroyed, the designer is no longer stopping the world from ending.

On top of that Nagomi's dad has gotten stuck in what I guess is the endpoint of doing this work. So it's getting pretty bad for everyone. Maybe Nagomi and Yume should just go on that world tour vacation and take Yume's siblings with because, it's not looking good.

Astrological Observer was chapters 147-149, and Archaeological Excavation Assistant is chapters 81-83. All of which were gone in the big DMC takedown.

Well, the Designer didn’t stop it from ending, it reset the world before it could. So it could still be resetting it all the time and we would just never know. And it’s not necessarily just if a world ends either. The name “Designer” leads me to believe that it resets things when events don’t transpire in the way it wants. So it is literally designing the history it desires most.

The Starmen are good guys...and the Designer moves no longer saying "yeah, no more resets..you're on your own!"
If this is gonna end like "You Will Hear the Voice of the Dead" and ends with Yume and Nagomi facing Cthulhu.....

We know when the Designer resets things because it makes transcription errors. In the chapter where the Designer was revealed and reset the world, for instance, it reversed the position of Hokkaido island. The place became mirrored to how it should have been. It probably had a hand in reversing what happened to the Middle East in the early chapters with the Pulp Fiction Suitcase.

Damn, they're REALLY doing the 'All the big world ending threats are running into each others'? That's a first for that kind of story.

A lot of threads are getting resolved... feels like the manga is in its last phase

Oof. The reveal about Hama's dad is really tragic. Though this also gives her more motive to accept gray jobs...

It occurred to me in the last couple of chapters that with all the hinted apocalyptic scenarios tied to some of the jobs, the world ending is a very feasible ending for this manga. Especially since we know other universes exist, so we can still get a "happy ending" with Hama and Yume escaping to another universe while everyone else dies.

Except for Daidai. She may genuinely be the savior after all, or the lone survivor
