Well, them being on a remote area, they probably got no where to go after school that'll require money but assuming a 100 Yen for ice cream or some snack, they can have about 5 a week? That's kinda reasonable, I think? Cheap ice cream I found in Tokyo last time I visit a few years ago is a little over that (130 IIRC), I think it's reasonable to think they can find 100jpy around their hometown.
