So far, we only know they first met at a club activity two years ago, and started dating about one year ago.

It's inconsistent. The narration box early in Ch 1 says "almost 1 year" but later he tells her mother they been dating for "about 2 years". At the end she's thinking "ever since that day" that she saw him alone at the welcome party..., which implies she may have made a move early (as you know HE's not assertive enough to have started anything).

I replied in the other thread, but to paraphrase it here, we may be smashing dating and relationship together when they're a bit more distinct.

So we perhaps have:

1. Met two years ago
2. Started dating soon after
3. Became exclusive about a year ago

Still, all of this seems to be really slow even by Japanese mores, which I am not an expert in.

And yeah, he's clearly not the one moving the relationship along.
