The characters really talk in a strange fashion. It is somewhat suitable since they are also a bit strange.

I'm confused about what the prince means when he's saying that his life is an interlude until the king is decided. Does he mean that his time as a student? Does he mean that once one of the prince becomes king, the others will be eliminated while the one who becomes king will be trapped by the position? It seems like he's already bound by his position as a prince. Is he an ephemeral golem of the second prince meant as a decoy who also has consciousness and knows it will disappear once the prince is deemed safe? I don't know.

This has to be the most convincing shoujo manga heroine I've ever seen. None of those "oh she's just so interesting" heroines hold a candle to this ball of social anxiety and math.

Just a WAG, but since there is a lot of uncertainty in this character's future, he has mostly put his life on hold till it's been determined whether he will be come the next king, a spare just in case, sent into exile, or killed off by one of his siblings.

There is also the possibility that he is secretly hoping one of his brothers, likely his younger brother, gets the throne. I mean, we saw a young boy at the start of the story talking about a new toy to play with, and he looked around the age and appearance of the youngest brother did he not?
