You're right for a lot of stories, but romances are a little different. By putting yourself in the protagonist shoes you can live his romance by proxy, and that's why these kinds of protagonist are EVERYWHERE only in romances.

That is where I am falling over. How dense he is, how cowardly he acts, and the bonus slapstick stupidity of his over the top facial expressions and drowning all drag me out of the story.

Very true, but Japanese goofy nervous kid is a different beast to a western goofy nervous kid, and that sometimes is a step too far in stretching my credibility. As for the age, I'm not sure. I thought they were in High School, not Middle school???

Mangadex is giving it almost a 9 rating but my best guess is that the bulk of it was from the time both were more assertive. This dumbfuckery should lower it over time.

Give it time and, unless it gets the axe, we will get the misunderstood confession too.

I have little time for ratings, be it here or on Crunchyroll. a good 95% of people just smash the top score after one chapter/episode, no matter how bad it is. Personally I will revisit my scores as time goes no, but I know it is pointless and will make no difference to the overall score, but at least I can update myself if there is a break in releases, and I am trying to remember where I was up to and if I was enjoying it.
