Seems like a pretty simple way to fight without violence, if you ask me. The only reason the brothers had any sway over the rest was because of the power the gun gave them.

That's utterly unrealistic. A single guy can not hope to control a large group through intimidation alone. Hell, not even a small group. Even if he could somehow account for the movements of all it's members, he still needs to sleep at the very least and he won't be waking up unless he has help. The only logical conclusion is that this guy has people on his side, ones that aren't that keen for a change in leadership, otherwise they'd attempt it. Those allies of his are just as guilty as him of oppressing the rest of the group, so they won't just let you topple the hierarchy, since the only thing that awaits them is retribution. Are you going to "trap" all of them too?

The only reasonable way to fight them "without violence" is by having them destroy themselves. That way you can say that you yourself did not use violence... You'll probably wish you had though, since even if it can be pulled off, it would result in uncontrollable casualties, most likely mainly among the people you wanted to help.

That's the thing. Whatever clever scheme you use or deal you make with others, the guys who have no problem with using violence will make you respond in kind or perish. It's nonsense.

Non-violence v/s a proven psychopath who does not hesitate to kill has only one outcome. Morals don't stop bullets.
It may be possible to arrange matters so that the worst idiots off each other, but there's no telling what the collateral damage will be in "innocents".
And there's no guarantee the "innocents" of the other group will quietly accept the new status quo, and happily join MC's rather bucolic group. Plus a host of other problems. Humans simply don't work according to Shounen Logic.

Yeah, I mentioned before that the only realistic way the MC could do this is to have the other group destroy itself. That's just "non-violence" on papaer though, in reality he's still responsible for the resulting death toll, only now he has no control over it.

I'm guessing they'll start poaching people very selectively. Suddenly one day a guy disappears, then a girl, then a group. And now you have 3 higer ups in a cave asking where the hell everyone is.
Though that still has the risk of either the enemy showing up with the gun after thoroughly searching for their location after people start disappearing, or someone you poached turning on you and telling the enemy where you are. Still, if they can poach 1/2 of their people without are hitches, negotiations may start being an option.
Anyway, the gun has to go, otherwise extreme violence always remains an option for the enemy: want to negotiate? They bring a gun. Want to capture the leader to more easily sway the rest of the group without it's influence? The brought a gun.
