You've obviously never fought someone with a shield if you can say this (and I wouldn't really hold that against you, because unless you're into HEMA or LARP or historical combat or similar you likely never would even consider it).

It's pitifully easy to pivot around the shield to keep it between you and an attacker, or to shift the shield around to block within your shield arm's arc. Her ability to bind him is also only partially capable of locking him down; note all the times that upon advancing to attack him, he's turned and attacked in several ways, be it with the shield itself, with that scream/suggestion type mental attack, or with his sword. The skeleton lord isn't just standing there taking blows that the MC is throwing specifically targeting the shield.
