the thing is just really slow cooking. so my uneducated guess is that the author works as a manga assistant or office worker or manual laborer or something to boost his income since web manga usually pay like dogshit. so he probably doesn't have much time to work on the volume (cover, extras, whatever else).

I think I get Mochizuki's angle. She's probably aware of Tanuki's incestuous feelings, even if he isn't. So she's simultaneously ingratiating herself to his family, as well as manipulating their sibling relationship to be strictly familial so she has no competition to deal with. If she can score points with Komaru, Tanuki and get a potential rival out of the way it's wins all around.

Her character is a reflection of Tanuki, not necessarily a bad person but HIGHLY manipulative. Another story might do something with this parallel.
