Just finished the anime and i was so excited to see if there is a good continuation of the storty or just anything they added in general
then axe-kun slashed me right at my hopes and dreams
gotta say, honestly, the anime ending is much better than this manga ending.
(before i say anything, this is from a standpoint of someone who watched the whole anime, and only saw how the manga ended)
now,I'm not saying the ending is that bad,but there are a few points that i think about it.
Firstly, with the anime ending,we could've at least imagined what happened after the story, now the anime ending just said that Ike went on to become a great commander, which leaves room for a lot of imagination for more stories of Ike and in general just for anime viewers to create their own head-cannon.But with this,it just feels very lackluster, yea sure the war was ended, but it was just very rushed.Ike just showed them basically what would happen if they keep fighting, reveal he is human, dipped and was never seen again. And somehow the perfect civilization was formed
Secondly,it just doesn't feel right that he would just dipped right after saying he is human, sure this is basically the only time a human was in the demon army, let alone him being a commander, but characters like Jirou(my god I just realized he aint even in the epilogue)or Lilith would've minded he was a human, they were followers of him since he was not only strong, caring but also because of his intelligence in planning. They prob would've been shocked, but would still have admired and follow Ike.
Lastly, there are some things that just don't make sense. For example,if Ike wanted to help form a world where demons and humans could live together peacefully, why didn't he stayed and continue to look over the new world,to help make sure peace can last? When did we ever know that Ike's mother was alive?
Of course there are also other things that could be improve, like showing more of satie and Ike since it seems that she is only on screen to show she is the FMC. There's also the question of why Ike only chose her when there were many other options-
But all in all,I'm just trying to say that while I don't hate the manga's ending,I feel like its still quite rushed and axed, where as although the anime ending was also a bit lacking in details,we can at least keep it open-ended and have our own head-cannons on what happen after that point of the story, which personally I think it's better
