Crack theory, but I wonder if the real cause for her loss in power is that she stopped going after "prey" so to speak. Hasshaku's nature is to take a liking to something (typically children) and take them away. The first thing she did when she reached max size was grab MC by the hands and pin him against the door to the manga café room saying "you can't get away" with a crazed look in her eye. That was something she WANTED to do in the name of gaining back more of her power.

I feel like the change in public perception of Hasshaku is merely affecting her psychologically and making her more timid and reserved. Meanwhile, her height decrease is physiological and due to dulled instincts caused by her new more timid nature. Between the manga cafe incident and her dreams she certainly has the "scare-ousal factor" going on when she's at her full potential.

Calm down, folks, the manga is NOT heading in the direction of “Netorare” or NTR trends! Please put away your torches and pitchforks.

I currently have volume 1 on Bookwalker as well as the next two chapters (6.1 and 6.2) on the official website, and not only is the manga heading in the right direction, but I even promise progress in the plot and a non-NTR ending to the chapter.

Unfortunately, given the state of the Japanese market, authors have to resort to shameful cliffhangers to stay in the rankings, but the next chapters will set things right.
