Scorched Earth is a defensive strategy where the defending, typically retreating, army pillages and destroys everything that might be of use to the invading army. This forces a greater logistical challenge on the pursuing army. Naturally the effect was more profound in the distant past before modern transportation, but it's still especially relevant considering shelter (in harsh climate), roads, bridges. It doesn't really apply much to what's going on in this chapter.

I wonder if he has some game knowledge that could help with "breaking curses". Assuming that's tied not to plot (which is completely off the rails by now) but general world-building, he might know where he could go to undo/reverse this sort of condition (the sword was cursed, so I think it stands to reason Ana is now cursed as well, rather than simply irreparably broken. I hope, anyway).

He fully deviated once Melissa & Jerome clocked Ana's location, so I expect once he's ensured her safety & recovery, he'll go back and one-man-army the Empire, if only for what parts it did to Ana.

When Allen goes to the Duke's territory, it's under attack by the army of one of the capture target's nation, Allen bombs 10s of thousands of them. Then after talking to the Duke, Allen and the Duke confront the King. The Duke asks for the King to allow Allen to marry Anna as his promised boon for winning the battle, but the King goes back on his word, demanding the head of Est Royalty. The Duke then presents the Prince's head, and the King goes all Joffrey, causing Allen to intervene to save the Duke as they escape through the tunnels as troops besiege the capitol. Allen and the Duke are declared traitors. So they gotta find another Prince and put him on the throne.

Meanwhile, the fake protagonist bitch finds a magical staff that's supposed to grant sainthood, but instead makes her the Witch of Envy, and she brainwashes everyone in the capitol. Set up for the big final battle.

Been a while since I read the web novel so things might be slightly out of order.
