As long as Rihito and Noa are comfortable with each other despite the flaws and feel positive value of their relationship then it's already not toxic relationship, just a quirky one.
Their entire dynamic is this; Nao acts out, Rihito tolerates and reassures. That's literally it. The most unrealistic character in this story is Rihito himself. It might work as a work relationship since she doesn't really act out too much during work but as close friendship? (let alone romance), that's cracked. It requires a special degree of loneliness to be able to tolerate Nao (or being an emotional blackhole with a "special" mind, like Rihito).

Are you kidding? Rihito never openly said they are best friends and that he values having a relationship with Noa. It's a direct upgrade of their status quo, Noa was itching to be his best friend for a while now.
He has constantly told her he values their relationship and finds her interesting. The only thing new is the best friend stuff , this is why it's been so weird to me that story is trying to tell us he should speak up more when because of who Noa is he has to constantly tell her this stuff. I read this relatively recently , are you really going to try and say rihito has never said he likes their relationship or likes being around her? Really? For who Noa is being best friends is huge , I get that but acting like rihito has never talked about his feelings is crazy

First of all, they are literally both on the extreme opposite ends of the spectrum. Rihito has never really gotten close to anyone because he is far too much of a loner. Meanwhile Noa has never gotten close to anyone because she is far too needy. Its a silly manga about two extremea finding comfort and balance with each other, they perfectly balance the other.

Secondly thats not entirely a true statement. Rihito has many times told her off and denied what she wanted when he didn't want something. I mean she has resorted to self hugging before because she knew Rihito didnt like it.

I guess the progress is the friends we made along the way Rihito being made to express himself. Being passive has helped draw out this behavior.

Btw I feel like some people really project IRL toxic behavior on Noa and in the same time using their own standards of healthy relationships (even when IRL most often then not they relationship between people are messy and hardly healthy - and stays this way till the end of their life). As long as Rihito and Noa are comfortable with each other despite the flaws and feel positive value of their relationship then it's already not toxic relationship, just a quirky one.
Healthy as in one side is borderline nearly emotionally dependent and the other side is simply tolerant their party's "insane" behaviors without constructive inputs and feedback?

And he has just as many times reassuring her and telling her he finds her interesting and that he would leave if she was actually bothering him. Like I get the best friend thing is huge for her but it's crazy to me that the story is acting like he never tells her his feelings when he does and constantly so just because of who Noa is as a person. I know people say this is progress and maybe it is but I doubt that she doesn't have some kind of breakdown involving him again that he has to reassure her about. That's my only problem , if he never told her anything I can understand but that's really not his problem when it comes to her

My friend, that is like saying a tsundere and a yandere is perfect for each other because they are opposite so their personalities cancel each other out.

Her acting has nothing to do with him. He would be the world's greatest friend/partner and she would still act this way. Because she is mentally ill. I'm not saying this to insult her. She needs professional help (and medication if neccesary)
She's insecure because she only feels being called a 'friend' is a platitude along with his low key personality so she's never taken it serious. Dude saying they are besties is probably what she really wants to hear and if he starts matching her energy a bit more she'll probably calm down... but this is manga so, lol
