i just double checked (chapter 5) when it's first mentioned she's an elf and no one questions why she doesn't have pointy ears. it could've been brought up later but i don't remember it happening. hopefully we get an explanation in the next few chapters then!!

Not the King, but he's so predictable as to what his reaction would be, it's easy to see how a faction within the Kingdom would ruthlessly exploit it.

I vaguely remember it was brought up later that it's because she's only partially elven, with human admixed in? Like, her grandmother several generations removed was elven, and she was atavistic or something like that to the elven blood, but still retained human features? I could be mixing up this series with another though.

Why not? Many wars have been started over a single person. WW1 and the Trojan War are 2 examples.

The initial Austro-Hungarian declaration of war and subsequent occupation of Serbia were indeed driven by the assassination of one important individual. There were indeed other motivating factors, but that was the spark that lit the fire. The escalation into what we now call WW1 followed from there due to the complex webs of alliances and competing national interests pervading Europe at the time.
