First of all, why even kick out a cleric? Your main healer? let alone a white mage?

I think it's the opposite, actually. "We're not expecting anyone better than Stella" implies that she was very good. I assume the party thought they were holding her back or sth

My bet is that they kicked her out because she was "too good" for this party. She would probably have stayed with these guys because of their friendship but they wanted her to progress in her career to a better party or what ever because she was way too good of a healer for their party.
