question about the uniform things, i get the explanation on the last page, but why do the old students wear their winter uniforms during entrance ceremony season? is it an obligation or something else?

Yup, for the older students, wearing the winter uniform is an obligation. Most Japanese schools have a set calendar for their uniforms, and the new school year starts in April, which is still officially part of the "winter uniform" season that usually runs until the end of May. So this is just a special exception made for the new students in some Okinawan schools because they'll only be wearing their winter uniforms for 2 months or so until the switch. oh, so its something along the lines of "in 2 months you would have to switch to summer uniform, so you can just wear it during the entrance season so you dont have to switch it in a few weeks and can just ride on with it into the summer uniform season"?
