Well supposedly some female birds give their unfertilized eggs to their partner as a sign of love/affection. I think that's why she's under the wrong impression and hesitated because it was close to lunch time and even though she wanted to get rid of it. This probably isn't her first egg either so she'll probably get rid of it... Better question is how to hide it from people until she can put it away
