I'm not so sure. Cultures varied a lot over time and place to place, even within the kind of absolute hierarchy most of this genre assumes. The girl isn't with a visibly armed guard to make a clear threat. It's not implausible ageism (given a request that on its face came off as insane), it's not implausible passive aggression, and it's not implausible for a stubborn person who feels essential to have approximately zero expectation of blowback. Things could be better, could be worse.

Honestly I prefer when there's more room for castes to squabble. Because absolute hierarchy can be a social hell that exists to glorify the protagonist beating on people who unrealistically forgot the rules.
