Well he was under the impression she would be asleep for 100 years so it would be unreasonable for him to think she would have forgotten and there's no way he would have forgotten his romance with the elven princess so yeah it would actually be reasonable for him to leave a letter or something.

Damn. Author really went out of his way to make this hurt the worst for Tierra. She sacrificed her love for the world, that love promised to see her again but died. If it was just this pretty sad but then he gets married and not just that but within a year of the promise and then on top of that never even mentioned her to anyone again. After all this now she plans to die so that her daughter does not has to go through this.

In the grand scheme of things, at least his legacy would not cause mama Tierra to behave like she does now. It's called sacrificing yourself for the greater good. Something a few people have trouble with because they don't wanna be "that guy". And who knows, maybe the elves have a secret rejuvenation draught that might've made him young again. It's fantasy, after all.

Everyone wants to judge this guy for saying something romantic in the heat of the moment, but would it be any better if he just meekly kept quiet and said goodbye? No the only choice you'd be satisfied with is if he never met her or died alone.
