It says on p.11 that the game gave basically a throwaway line with no follow-up describing that Tierra died having her mana and lifeforce siphoned off, so.

I think Demonio's just not an idiot, refreshingly, and assumes that whatever antagonistic force is in the game, had a hand in Tierra's death off-screen.
