Am I the only one who feels the GL tag is misleading? Cause so far it feels like just heavy subtext from usual cute girls doing cute things that will get nowhere :thonk:

It doesn't help that the mangaka never did any yuri either, unless they have some Twitter/ pixiv stuff that is Yuri that is

Hate to say it since I bookmarked this ages ago but I’m getting heavy “will never be more than subtext” vibes from this series. There are those who will fight you on whether subtext counts for the GL tag, but personally I feel like with the large amount of actual yuri romance we get these days something like this feels rather quaint.

Yeah hate when someone tags subextet as GL, it doesn't help that besides a possible few doujin the mangaka seemingly never did much of yuri at all either, if the doujins are yuri that is, hard to say since not translated but at least one I'm pretty sure it is

This reminds me of Liar Satsuki Can See Death, it was tagged as GL for a long time cause people assumed it was but never went past subtext, hell, for some perspective? Fucking Dynasty Scans only use subtext tag for this one lol

I feel someone really gotta review those tags cause unless they have like spoilers from a hundred chapters in the future where they actually get together then GL probably should be removed

It’s quite literally tagged Yuri on Comic-Walker, one of the official raw sites.

I totally get what you mean.
However, the GL tag is there (Most likely, i just got here x'D i didn't edit the info) 'cause the manga is tagged as such in Bookwalker and Ebook Japan. Bookwalker even used the manga as the poster child for a "Yuri discounts" sale

SPOILER:
Not all volumes are tagged as Yuri. Only volume 4 and 5 have that tag, with a moment at the end of volume 5 that, I personally think, makes clear that they have a thing for each other. But yeah, as you say, everything feels more "subtext" than "yuri" for the most part. Also, i haven't read volume 6 (the newest one), but it does not have the "Yuri" tag

True, 50 chapters later and Im still getting heavy vibes similar to other mangas with misleading gl tags where nothing actually happens :meguuusad: its unbearable

Oh for the love of Sappho. Just because the two main characters don’t kiss or date or fist each other on panel it isn’t yuri? She literally collapsed from joy because Rin hugged her through a mascot uniform. That’s text, not subtext. The whole series is literally how much happiness these two women bring to each other’s lives just by existing and you don’t think it counts as yuri because there isn’t some kind of culmination?

If this were a hetero or yaoi couple no one would bat an eyelid, but apparently yuri has to have higher standards to count. The irony is that yuri detractors and yuri lovers BOTH suffer from the “they could just be really close friends” disease. Just let me enjoy my Lesbian™️ fluff dangit! 😤

That doesn't mean much unfortunately, some places and people in Japan call yuri even something where girls are extremely close, it's not without reason that yuri mangakas over time started to call their work Girl's Love instead

Fact that volume 6 ain't tagged as yuri probably means nothing still happened, which is a shame, do tell when you read it

I think the chapters are on pixiv too, think they're at like 150 already, wanna bet nothing happened yet? Lol

What you said would have a lot more weight if not for the countless extremely gay mangas that get nowhere and the girls end as nothing but friends, you're fine with vagueness, ambiguity and open ending? Good for you, some of us prefer actual resolutions instead of having to imagine what is happening

If the series ends with nothing happening then it's still nothing, no relationship, no romance, nothing beyond close friends

And just to make my point? Dynasty Scans which is basically the biggest yuri site around only tags it as subtext

Just for some perspective for everyone, the series started on twitrer February 15 2019, almost 7 fucking years and apparently at already 150 chapters and possibly not even close to them getting together

I've read enough mangas to know this might go nowhere beyond subtext with them ending as just close friends

My New Friend Wasn't What I Expected
Stretch
Liar Satsuki Can See Death

Three series that on both Mangadex and Dynasty Scans were tagged as Yuri / Girl's Love when translation was ongoing cause it was very gay, they all got nowhere

Some of you might not like what I'm saying but the reality is that if it's not published in a Yuri / Girl's Love magazine or at least explicitly promoted as Girl's Love then there's high chances nothing will happen

Unfortunately that's just how Japanese publishing works

I've had my big share of disappointments to never expect Yuri of something that isn't promoted as Girl's Love, it's not without reason that all actual Yuri mangakas started to call their works Girl's Love instead of just Yuri

Liar Satsuki coming up is funny because it clearly ended with gl but the primary love interest the audience expected isn't who she ended up with.

Regardless, it doesn't matter.

"A Ninja and Assassin Under One Roof" and "The Demon Girl Next Door" are both mangas that are not under the yuri label by their publisher and are still very yuri. To the point that denial looks foolish.

Regardless if the two protagonists here escalate their feelings doesn't matter. What matters is that those feelings are there. That they occupy a space in the other's mind with the greatest shown narrative importance.

 That is what matters.
