She's told her brother about the watch, though. It was part of what got her the agreement to live next door to Uichi. The mastermind was (seemingly) surprised to hear about the clover watch when Yotsuha was trying to use it previously, and has been reactionary to Yotsuha derailing the plans.

More likely the estranged father than the brother, imo.

She told her brother about time travel, but not about the watch specifically. When the mastermind figured out it was the watch it seemed almost like he already knew she was time travelling and just figured out how.

Not saying it's her brother, but the story is definitely setting up the beats for us to suspect him.

That's a nice theory Yotsuha, if it's true then maybe the mastermind is looking out for her... like a brother.

Her friend from elementary would also be fairly plausible based on this chapter.
And yet both the friend and the brother seem too obvious.

'Been saying for a while it's the brother, trying to kill Uichi because of a timeline where he didn't realize in time that Yotsuha died trying to save him or due to a horrible coincidence where she thinks he rejected her or something.

For my money, he's the one responsible for susdad's "suicide" reported on the news… and I still say time-traveling is a familial power, which is why Mommy Dearest lost her sanity and susdad turned evil.

Yotsuha using the clover watch might cause her death, since the "mastermind" doesn't want her death but want to get rid of Uichi, it might be:

1. Father
2. Brother

They don't care about Uichi, as long as Yotsuha is safe, although her well being is tied with Uichi, which would cause her to get mental breakdown, that wouldn't be good for either of suspects tho'

A few theories:

Alternate/future Uchi:
Wants to save Yotusha from having to save him so many times. Only problem with this theory is that she has saved him before, she is just trying to get him the most happy he can be. Why not just tell her the consequences instead of trying to get him to commit? Also, how can he be time traveling?

Father:
Feels a little like a red herring and, similar to the guy in the flashbacks, it feels to obvious. Plus, why would her father, who might not even know she exists, care about some random kid she met at school as a young child?

Brother:
Most likely, but still, why does he care either for Uchi or Yotusha. He didn’t know about Uchi until recently. It seems he is helping Yotusha for the benefit of having someone who can time travel.

Hacker-close friend (I forgot her name):
We haven’t seen her a lot and she knows Uchi and Yotusha. Maybe she secretly loves Yotusha and wants to kill Uchi? However, if that is the case why risk her life with people like her stalker/obsessed classmate?

One of the bullies/participants:
Maybe one of them (my money on any of the bullies is on the background bullies from the subway) is doing it out of sick pleasure and enjoying controlling multiple people.

Nobody we have seen:
It is possible that some sicko is just f-ing around with Uchi and finds sick joy from it. With Yotusha acting as a new fun toy. It is also possible that it is an AI that misunderstood some order or is following one someone made but thought it failed and gave up on it.

I'm still buying the engineer friend stocks. All this said, dad is definitely a subplot that will impact the story (the setup is a bit too obvious), and her brother will defo be involved during her family's proper arc.

I have an insane theory about Yotsuha's father that I don't think anyone has brought up yet. I don't know how exactly it ties into Uichi but I do think it ties into why her father is a "horrible person", and why she was in an orphanage

What if Yotsuha's father is also the father of the actual mastermind - a second half brother! But things were either not consensual or ended very badly between him and her mom, causing her mom to put her in that orphanage to begin with.

This would explain everything: her mother's behaviour, how her brother knows her father was awful, and her relationship to the mastermind, who is also using a clover symbol. The mastermind is Yotsuha's half brother - but not the one we've been introduced to. A secret other sibling who cares about her insofar as she family technically.

TL;DR the mastermind is Yotsuha's half brother, but not the one we know. There is another.
