Idk what other s&m romance you're talking about, but thinking about it, it's really just him doing always the right thing the right way.
I always thought it was him being already "messed up" deep inside and she only had to poke the beast, so to speak....and his "ability" of satisfying her needs was a result of "being a natural already deep down"....that or she's so fucked up that she's "easy to please" no matter what he does (which doesn't seem the case).
